Employing War Veterans: Rights and Obligations
Agenda » Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management will provide an overview of the obligations and rights of California employers and veterans pertaining to employing and/or re-instating National Guard, Reservists and other service people returning to the workplace from conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The lecture will examine hypothetical scenarios employers should be prepared to address as American businesses face the largest re-employment of “citizen soldiers” in U.S. history and a review of the Uniformed Service Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Human resource professionals, managers, veterans, and the general business community will benefit from the discussion of other employment laws pertaining to compensation, benefits, job promotions, and other employment-related issues, policies, and regulations pertaining to returning service people. California companies must prepare now to address the impact of returning military employees on the business organization. The state committed more than 3,400 National Guard and Reserve personnel to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan as of January 2007. When these men and women do eventually come home they face considerable struggles in their effort to resume their lives as they were prior to fulfilling their commitment to serve their country. Location: West Los Angeles Graduate Campus
There is no charge for admission, but advance registration is required as seating is limited.
